Wow, my intentionally bad fanfiction is still going strong. It still gets a lot of hits.

genuinelyinterested asked: How does what you do for a living affect the lives of others?

I process the data collected from behavioral studies that look at the effectiveness of efforts to help pregnant women lower or quit smoking. So, I guess that can help other people, we’ve had a few women in the study completely quit smoking.

So, any questions, comments, whatever will be greatly appreciated because I don’t think it would help my career to pass out in my cubicle.

This working out twice a day thing is leaving me a sleepy and sore mess.

I just shuffle around and wince whenever I move my arms.

teachthemhowtothink:

I’ve seen numerous posts about privilege on my dash lately and there seems to have been a communication problem.

This is super obvious, but I feel like I need to point out most of us have advantages in some areas and disadvantages in others. When you see a post about a privilege you have but…

My whole thing with the privilege debate is that while I do think it’s important for people to realize that they do have advantages based on their race, sexual orientation, gender, sex, etc, I think that it can be taken too far to where your own feelings are automatically diminished because you don’t “have it hard enough” or then there’s this sudden movement against people who identify as “Allies” in the Gay Rights movement.

Maybe this is because of the more heavy Social Justice-type presence on Tumblr, but it seems like privilege is being used by those who are isolated to further isolate themselves. I see a lot of posts on Tumblr that are critical of heterosexuals who are active in promote gay rights.

Like I said, it’s important for people to realize their privilege, but I think that it’s counterproductive for people to diminish someone’s experience and feelings on the assumption that they “have it easy” or to further isolate yourself or your group because the majority don’t understand your struggles.

Just my thoughts, anyway.

Did anyone else think that Drag Race kinda sucked last night?

Usually we get to see more interaction between the queens and their drag daughters/mothers and there’s an added performance element (A safe-sex cheer, a flag routine, a lip sync, etc) but so much time was dedicated to the wedding that it felt like we barely got to see anything.

There’s also the issue of the marriages portrayed being heterosexual marriage. I don’t have really strong feelings about it, because I don’t know if gay marriage was legal at the time of the filming and I also think that doing a gay marriage would have opened the show up to critcism. If they married two lesbians, they’d be accused of trying to force traditional gender presentation on a woman and if they married two men they would probably be accused of backing the stereotype that there’s always a “man and a woman” in a gay relationship.

I think that having two heterosexuals getting married while swapping gender roles made for a nice reconciliation for the issue, but it just ate up way too much time.
